Hodge Collard Preston have been awarded the Contract to provide professional services for the schematic and detailed design of the Thornlie Bowling and Tennis Facilities. The project involves the consolidation of a number of growing existing sporting clubs into a new facility, which is centrally positioned within the existing playing fields to capitalise on visual and physical connections to the proposed sporting activities.

The proposed facility combines the differing requirements for the sporting clubs, whilst sharing a number of communal areas that are required to be accessed by club members of all ages and physical capabilities. The project aims to provide a number of social spaces for the surrounding community, such as function rooms and member bar areas, together with support spaces for the sporting club members such as toilets, change rooms, kiosks and office areas for day-to-day administration.
Pivotal to the success of the project will be the integration of the proposed building into the network of existing synthetic lawn bowls surfaces, with provision for the construction of an additional synthetic surface – following the successful completion of the proposed building.

As with many community facilities there is a key user group who will occupy the facility the majority of the time, but the council must also meet the requirements of other community groups who will use the facility. We have worked closely with the user groups and council to formulate our design solution, explaining and reasoning why we have made decisions, this has been fundamental in achieving a solution which meets the requirements of the numerous users’ requirements.
